This Privacy Policy is published by Interstate Chaverim ("we," "us," or "our"), a non-profit volunteer roadside assistance organization, operating under the name Interstate Chaverim as listed on the Google Play Store. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information through the IC Dispatch Member App ("the App"). The App is intended solely for use by authorized members of our organization.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account Information: Unit number, name, email address, and phone number associated with your membership.
- Authentication Data: Login credentials (encrypted), device identifiers, and session tokens used to secure your account.
- Precise Location Data (including Background Location): With your explicit permission, we collect your device's precise geographic location — including when the App is running in the background or is closed and not in use — to connect nearby members for dispatching and to provide proximity-based call notifications. You can choose between "Smart Notifications" (location shared with our server for proximity filtering) or "Private Mode" (location stays on your device only). You can change this preference at any time in Settings, and you can revoke the location permission at any time through your device settings.
- Device Information: Device model, operating system, and a unique device identifier for managing active sessions and delivering push notifications.
- Push Notification Tokens: Tokens provided by Apple or Google to deliver push notifications to your device.
- Usage Data: Interactions with calls (availability responses, ETA submissions) as part of dispatch operations.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use collected information solely for the following purposes:
- Authenticating your identity and managing your member account
- Displaying active and recently closed roadside assistance calls
- Sending push notifications about new calls that may require your assistance
- Filtering call notifications by proximity — including in the background — to connect the nearest available members for dispatching (when opted in to Smart Notifications)
- Facilitating communication between responding members during active calls
- Managing your active device sessions for security
We do not use your location data for advertising, marketing, or any commercial purpose.
3. Data Sharing and Non-Commercial Use
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information — including your location data — with third parties for advertising, analytics, or any commercial purpose. We may share limited information only as follows:
- With other responding members: Your unit number is visible to other members assigned to the same call. If you have opted in to phone sharing, your phone number may be shared with co-responders on the same call.
- Push notification services: We use Expo Push Notification Service, which routes notifications through Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM). These services receive your push token but do not receive your location data.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our members or the public.
4. Data Storage and Security
We take the following measures to protect your information:
- All data transmitted between the App and our servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS.
- Authentication tokens are stored securely on your device using encrypted storage (Expo SecureStore).
- Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms and are never stored in plain text.
- Two-factor authentication (OTP via SMS or email) is required for all logins.
- Our servers are hosted on secured infrastructure with access controls and monitoring.
- Location data transmitted to our servers is used only for real-time proximity filtering and is not retained as a historical trail.
5. Your Choices and Controls
You have control over your data:
- Location sharing: Choose between Smart Notifications (server-side proximity, including background) or Private Mode (device-only location, no data sent to server). Revoke the location permission at any time through your device settings — this will not affect your ability to use other App features.
- Push notifications: Enable or disable push notifications through the App or your device settings.
- Do Not Disturb: Configure quiet hours to suppress notification alerts during scheduled times.
- Device management: View and revoke active device sessions from the Settings screen.
- Data deletion: You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting your organization administrator or using the contact information below. We will process deletion requests within a reasonable time.
6. Data Retention
We retain your information only as long as necessary to provide the App's services:
- Location data: Real-time location used for proximity filtering is not stored as a historical record. Your last known proximity is retained only to support the current session and is cleared when you disable Smart Notifications or delete your account.
- Call history: Retained for operational record-keeping as required for our non-profit dispatch operations.
- Account data: Retained for as long as you are an active member. Upon request, your account and personal data will be deleted within a reasonable time.

7. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
8. Third-Party Services
The App does not include third-party advertising or commercial tracking services. We do not use cookies or similar tracking technologies for advertising purposes.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify members of significant changes through the App or other communication channels. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
